I want to have a successful business
Do you feel like you are in an endless battle with maintaining your business? Well… you probably are…
I’m going to mention the ugly in the first few paragraphs before transitioning into the positives. Bare with me it will get better!
Ugly Moments
Have you witnessed one or more of these imbalances in business or your personal life? Missing deadlines or not on time, not returning phone calls or emails, not making solid decisions, spending money on personal recreation frequently while neglecting business obligations, help is scarce, motivation low, people who have your back are disappointed with you, everything around you seems to dropping-fast or conflict is commonly in the midst of conversation.
If you are, then you are doing something fundamentally wrong. Business is a battle and with that battle requires commitment, a value system, with discipline. Any business can make-money, however every business cannot sustain making-money consistently. Lets’ get back to the why you’re in business…
Yeh, I started a business!
With excitement, most start-ups open a business to do the ‘thing-thing’ they enjoy–and that is most-definitely not a bad thing. Although, a business owner is signing-up for more than just that enjoyable ‘thing-thing’. It involves Billing, Management, Leadership, Customer Service, Taxes, Records, Software, Marketing, People, Training, Research, Adjustments–Oh!–and let’s not forget about the Services with Policies, Complaints, Deadlines, Orders, and Vendors; depending on the business it can be plenty more… I’m almost making myself sad delivering this post. 🙂
Okay, now that we covered all those matters that apply to business… the next section is…
Am I a Leader?
The most important factor to success is you. I know it may sound cliché, nevertheless it is the truth. You need to be willing to step-up to the plate like you never have before to succeed. Read these Forbes stats and marinate on your odds.
7 out of 10 new employer firms survive at least 2 years, half at least 5 years, a third at least 10 years and a quarter stay in business 15 years or more
Throughout my professional career I have witnessed most of the failures due to poor leadership not-the-talent, not-the-service; yes, the leadership. Poor decisions are strongly impacted by Leadership; anything in your business falls on the leadership. As much as that sucks to hear, it is a hard-truth. So the question is… are you a leader. If you are continuing to read this blog more than likely you are not all-the-way there yet; possibly have great potential; maybe need to make improvements; thinking on decisions or you are a leader with an established business and laughing at this post with memories.
What is an established business?
This is my experience speaking, not the fluff version… You are established, if you have made profit consistently and/or you can pay all your personal bills along with business expenses with the business. Also, you have a solid client-base with company experience to draw from with a known brand in a marketplace. Ultimately, unless you buy a well-oiled franchise or existing business you cannot walk into established business overnight. It is a goal to achieve…
So, what do I need to do to start toward success?
Start by developing yourself… every day you have to make the hard choices and set the rules to follow. Set-up those standards and hug them like your baby. You have to think different… Not selfish, but kind-of selfish; Not Arrogant, but slightly cocky at-times–this all depends on who you are dealing with at the time. The point is… you are the example of the company and the people you interact with need to respect your standards. For example, If you are working with customers follow your guidelines of how you want them to feel and build from it. Confidently, take your presence seriously as well as your attitude. Again, you reflect the business!
Have you ever went to a company and was dissatisfied with your service? Who ultimately was to blame? You were mad at the business and upset with the employee in the business. If you went a step further to confront the situation. Who did you ask for? Yes, the manager in which equates to something similar to you. Ding, Ding, Ding! Think-about-it.
This didn’t answer all my questions.
Overall, I could go-on forever. Starting with you enables better decisions, disciplined actions, level of commitment and acceptance. If you are ready for that then be on the look out for more specific understands that impact the business itself. I will plan to write weekly. Better-yet, below you give a suggestion of what you would like to gain insight on. I cannot make any promises, although I will be the first to notify you via email if I make it happen. Enjoy!
